Hatching eggs should be cleaned and sanitized, preferably at the farm, before storage.

CLEANING

Any debris, including fluff and dust should be swept or vacuumed up. All surfaces and equipment should be washed with a detergent sanitizer using a pressure washer, Squeegee, Mop, brush or cloth as appropriate.

DISINFECTION

Effective disinfection of all surfaces and equipment after cleaning is essential. Apply disinfectant to cover the surfaces with a pressure washer (500 psi), squeegee, mop, brush or cloth as appropriate.

SPECIALISED DISINFECTION

It is advised that periodically (e.g. monthly) surfaces, particularly floors and walls, are disinfected with an alternative broad-spectrum disinfectant.

DRAINS

At appropriate intervals, remove internal trap (if present) and dispose of debris. Clean down drain holding pit and flush with water. Pour into drain 25 litres of pre-diluted Disinfectant.

FOGGING

It is appropriate to fog certain areas such as the Egg Store, Hatcher and setter areas with disinfectant. This is normally done on a daily basis at the end of the working day. Use a mechanical hand held fogging machine.

PERSONAL HYGIENE

On arrival for work, change into protective clothing. Before starting work, after breaks and when changing work activities, wash hands thoroughly.

FOOT DIPS

Clean foot dip containers and fill with fresh disinfection solution twice weekly. Ensure that a Foot Dip instruction sign is clearly visible.

SITE SECURITY

Ensure that no visitor is admitted to the hatchery without first registering in the visitor’s book, putting on full protective clothing provided and washing his or her hands. Ensure that the wheels of all vehicles entering the site are sprayed with disinfectant or pass through a wheel dip.
